GULL (2019)
Scanned lino cut prints
Gull is a comic zine inspired by the study of ethno-ornithology and generally the human relationship to birds. The piece is a collection of images that work together to create a dichotomous story about humans and birds. The piece is a wordless book that provides images that are both familiar but in some cases obscure and disturbing, it is fairly ambiguous and allows the reader to place their own story and words onto the images. Throughout history birds have been pillars of spirituality, in Noongar culture the silver gull is a vital link to culture and the spiritual world. Birds have so much significance to our physical bodies and spiritual histories, this piece offers a moment for the reader to sit and engage with their own connections to birds.
